Jeez, I hope you haven't waited for a response here before you buy, it might be a couple of years!
I have not heard anything negative about any of the early SL, or SLC. I have read that if there are bad years for either car, I think it was 76-77.
I think it would have more to do with the car it's self. How much is the asking price, body condition, maintenance, issues like these will better define value, or worthy cause.

I have a 1975 450 SLC (98000 mi) and have had very few problems with it. They tend to get very hot inside because there (in most cases) are no fire walls and you get the engine heat. I've just moved and gone through a life style change and (unfortunately) will be selling mine. I just can't fit three cars in a two car garage. I will miss the smooth morning rides down to the beach. Good luck if you decide to buy and let me know the selling price. I don't want to get ripped on my sale but I know I can't sell her for 1 mil even though she is worth it.
