Windshield "easy pass" install

Windshield "easy pass" install
I am trying to install the device on the windshield that is used for an easy pass at toll booths. The directions with the device shows it mounted to the right side of the windshield mirror. The MB owner's manual says there is some kind of coating on the windshield except in certain areas that will interfere with the device.
The owner's manual shows it mounted to the left or right of the mirror, but also seems to point out the areas that are not coated. It appears to me that the area MB suggests mounting it is in a coated area.
Has anyone mounted one of these and where does it go?(2001 S430). I also worry about messing up the rain sensor behind the mirror. Does that sense rain only directly in front of the sensor so anything off to the side will not affect it??
Thanks, Mark

RE: Windshield "easy pass" install
I don't have an 'easypass' like you describe, but I do know that on my 2002 S430 the area that you refer to is at the bottom of the windscreen exactly in the middle. If you look closely in sunlight from the inside out, you will see a somewhat rectangular area that does not appear as 'tinted' as the rest of the glass. This is the area where signals will pass through. Hope this helps.

Benzoid,
I think that is the area that the owner's manual shows as being clear too....but, then the same illustration shows devices at the top of the windshield beside the mirror. I have to stick this thing on and don't want to get caught up at a toll booth because it's in the wrong area.

RE: Windshield "easy pass" install
I've reread the owner's manual and now I think I have it. There are actually 2 areas that are clear...at the top of the windshield on either side of the mirror and an area at the lower right/center of the windshield.
I will look at the windshield today and see if I can determine the area at the upper right that is clear. I think if I'm not positive, I will do as suggested and hold it in that area as I drive through to see if it works.

You can find the clear spot by using a hand held garage door opener. The windshield is designed to reflect UV rays and the signal will not pass through it except the clear area described in your owners manual.
