hey guys -please help me out. i just got a 2001 S430. the day after i bought the car, i put 20" rims on it. the fronts are 20x9's and the backs are a 20x10 with a 3.5"lip on it and only 32mm offset. the wheels hang way out and the tires are rubbing bad. the shop said they would work fine and so they are standing behind them and switching them out with some 19x8.5's all the way around. my problem now is that they are telling me that they think the car was hit and that is why the 20x10's are sticking out. i realize that they might just be trying to save face with the bad call initially on the wheel sizes, but there is a disturbing fact with this that bugs the heck out of me. the passenger side rim sticks out farther than the drivers side. i am wondering if the rear is set up like that and the stock wheels compensate for it? i hope so, because if not, my car was hit before i bought it. my guess is that the rear is a little off from the factory but i'm not sure -at least that is what i am hoping. the new rims i am going with are only 8.5's and they have a 38mm offset so i think i will be fine either way. please advise!!!!!!

i have 20x10 in the rear, they dont stick out, but they do rub on the fender, need to get the fender rolled.
could be that they gave you 2 different offset wheels .put your stock wheels back on and see if they are even.

thanks for the reply. i am hoping that the rear wheels are two different offsets -maybe a defect, or maybe they shipped the wrong rim. i will try to get to the bottom of it on friday when we put the 19's on it. he is going to put one size shorter in the front and rear than what tire rack recomends. 245/40/19 in the front, and 275/30/19 in the back. i hope they are not too low of a profile. they are already ordered and paid for -so i am pretty much stuck with them. i read in another post that there is a small protrusion that sticks out in each fender well like a little tab. there is a tab of metal with a plastic lip wrapped around it sticking into each fender well and this is absolutely where the tire is rubbing. dont these tabs have a purpose - like holding the plastic lower onto the quarter panel? if i have them ground off, wont the lower portion of the fender want to drop down away from the quarter panel? my wheel guy says they cut them off all the time at the shop but like i said -i'm kinda concerned that they are there for a reason. please advise.

I have the same setup as you but I think that the off set on my wheels are slightly lower....I had to purchase a spacer....mine actually rubs when I hit a dip on the freeway..not bad at all...My problem is that I can't lower it because of the wheels sticking out (it is normal for it to stick out with 20x10 on the back)...so that is why I'm selling my wheels.....Anyways...I don't know why they told you what they told you but if your tire was rubbing bad...then there might be something going on there......Oh by the way...in response to the guy who's planning on rolling his fenders......DON'T DO IT....you'll mess up your paint job!!
