Default w126...backwards compatible?

I got my 87 420SEL running after lots and lots of swearing and head-scratching. Now it's time to replace the pads and rotors. On my parts site of choice, autohaus az, the cost to replace all four discs on my make and model is $200....which isn't too bad, but I remember when I replaced them on my 81 300 SD they were $25 a piece. Since they are both W126's, shouldn't most things aside from drivetrain and electrical be compatible? if I bought the $25 ones would they fit?

In the '86 facelift the W126 recieved slightly larger brakes, so you wouldn't want to put the smaller brakes from an early car onto your 420
