Default W 140 300SD issues

Hello,

I recently purchased a W 1992 300 SD and converted to run on Veg oil. It has worked out well so far. I heard that there is a major design flaw with the 3.5 L 6 cylinder engine which apparently everone knew but me. I just checked the oil level yesterday and it seemed to be low. I have not added oil to the engine since the last oil change which was 1000 miles ago.

My question is should I be adding oil routinely to the car at regular intervals?

Does this mean that it has excessive oil consumption?

It has run 118,000 miles without any problems so far. How many miles can I expect out of this engine.

Finally, if I do have to get the engine replaced, what type of rebuilt diesel am I looking at. Would a 6 cy 3.0 L from an 80's W126 work out.

Thank you in advance for you help.

Since the car only has 118,000 miles i assume that it is in decent shape so when the engine goes i reccmend buying a brand new 3.0L cyl long block and putting that in the car. I knew of a guy that did this to his parents '91 350SDL W126 so i would assume that u can put one in a W140 but u might want to talk to a more experiemced person than me ablout that. Wiring and senors i think would be the worst part though.
