You need to read the codes (or get them read) and then someone can give you and idea of what you're looking at, as far as a price goes.
You have a fault in your "Supplemental Restraint System" (SRS). Reading the codes will pinpoint what that fault is.

maybe the front passenger seat occupied sensor is faulty.
if any of the airbag component was previously removed while the ignition is "on", then the fault was stored and only by deleting the fault that the SRS light will go off.
the person who always sit on the front passenger is heavy?

Thanks for the info. The following changes were made recently. 1. Steering Wheel was replaced. 2. All the seats were removed as part of rust proofing. 3. Especially driver side seat was completely replaced by an equivalent working unit.
Could any of these would creat the problem with SRS. In that case I can have a word with the distributor. Whats your thoughts?

if the steering wheel was replaced, there is also a chance that the clockspring wiring inside was damaged.
SRS light comes on immediately after they do the repair or it take some time?
bringing the car to the workshop is best always. they got the tools, equipment, and knowledge.

I had the same problem with my S320. MB service told me the driver seat belt was the problem and to a tune of $385.00 to fix. Yours could be any thing having to do with safety, from stem to stern. Take it to MB service center and hope for the best.
