2000 S500
Recently purchased the vehicle; drives smooth runs great.

Today noticed when I drive over bumps I am now hearing a squeaking/rattling sound from the front end.

Just wondering if it sounds like the ball joints? or shocks?

Anyone else have this problem. Any suggestions.

Could be those, or sway bar mounts, or just about anything else under there bolted together. Jack up the front end, support the car, and start prying and wiggling things until you find the problem.

 

I just fixed lower control and ball joints that could be the issue.It cost a little over $800
plus labor and all original parts (s430 4matic) good luck

 

I had the same problem, in the afternoon the squeaking (which sounds like the next door neighbors are working on their next child) is hard to duplicate; mainly in early morning, after the car has been sitting or cold and rain. The dealership (after several attempts and intermittent duplications) finally isolated the sounds to the front suspension where the tie rods are located, there are a second pair of joints covered by boots (just like your CV Joint boots). They removed them to find that there are ball joints inside that could, over time get moisture and some road debris inside. They lubricated the hell out of both sides and my problem has never returned.

Thanks for the info. One day it squeaks the next few it's gone, then back again. But's it's really embarrasing when it's there. I also notice it's there after I've washed the car or it's rained.

I'll try and grease it.
