The other day I went and test drove the CDI E320 wich I thought drove like ****. Then I went and drove an 02 S500 and fell in love it. I'm thinking about getting an 03 S500 4Matic. Being a ski racer, I need some All wheel drive if I'm in the snow. I have Volvo, Audi and BMW now. I've never had a MB. I would just like to know how the AWD system is on the MB and if I pick up an 03 around the 50k miles be a good choice. Let me know how you guys enjoye these fine machines. Any info would be greatley appreciated.

I personally wont buy a W220 (2000-2006 S-class) cause of the electirical problems with them. Also the low point in Benz quality is 01-04 so u might want to find a 05 or 06 unless its out of ur price range. But since u have experience with paying for any repair bill on the Audi or BMW or Volvo unless u do ur own work like i do then it wont matter. What makes u not go for an A8 though? But as far as the 4-matic system they are excellent. But u will enjoy the car as long as nothing electrical goes wrong. I love my Benzes just wont buy some of the newer ones the W220 being one model. U can read over some other threads on here dont just take my opinon.

 

S-Class 4 matic is good for you or else...M-Class.

S-Class got ski rack inside and cooler box is installed if you got no ski inside. it can be done in seconds.

just curious, what did you find wrong with the cdi? i was working in a dealer for a while, and i loved every one i got to drive. then again, im into mb diesels.

dont get me wrong, the s5 is a good car, im just wondering.

 

I have a 2001 S500 and couldn't be happier with it. Get an extended warranty from Mercedes if you are worried. I had 1 problem with the integrated phone and dealer finally had to run a separate fiber optic cable and haven't had any trouble since then.

 

The S500 is a great car. Some people on this forum seem to bash '00 to '04 S Class without any merit, facts or experience. I have an '04 S 600, and it is a spectacular automobile. Go to http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/ and read real facts about the car you are interested in. This is a government site that you can view any recalls, service advisories, and consumer compliants filed for any car/year. I was always told that baseless opinions, were . . . well!

 

I'm still trying to find the threads you have been referring to, but, I don't see many describing any major problems with the W220. It appears however, that you haven't liked any Mercedes since 1989 though. That's a long time ago (17 year old car)?
