Purchase 1992 600SEL ?
I'm a newbie to the forum and have never owned a Mercedes. Jaguars and Rolls, yes, but new to this one.
I have an opportunity to purchase a 1992 600SEL with 23,000 miles form the original owner. Climate controlled garage, battery tender, just doesn't drive it because he won't let dogs in it and he always travels with his dogs. New Michelins all around just because. Purchased new, he has the sticker, got the extended maintenance plan.
Seller is strong personality and older gentlemen that won't be pushed or pulled and won't even call to get me the service history. He was "insulted" The dealership did indicated that they performed a number of items on the car.
I am aware of the wiring/insulation issue and the owner indicated that shortly after his purchase, it was at the dealership for 6 weeks for a complete wiring harness re-do. Did they replace the bad wires with another batch of bad wires? I don't know and don't know if he'll even let me pop the hood and engine covers to have a look. Don't even know if I can get a test ride, let alone a test drive.
Asking $15,000 - let me rephrase, will accept $15,000. Gobs of money, doesn't have to sell and it isn't advertised. I just heard about it.
Buy or pass?
Any advice and opinions would be gratefully appreciated.
