O2 Sensor

O2 Sensor
My check engine light came on the day after my 2000 S430 w/ 40,000 miles on it had the B service. I assumed it was not reset after the service so I ignored it. I drive the car about once a week maybe. I live 2 hours from the Benz service dealer so its hard to just drop in. I finally got the car in this week and they said it was an O2 sensor and wanted $460 to replace it. If I understand this right it is a sensor nothing is wrong otherwise. This seems high for such an item. Is this something I should be concerned about? I know its a Benz and you pay to play in the Benz. Wondering what the experts think.

RE: O2 Sensor
for starters your engine light has nothing to do with service. your engine light comes on because there is a problem with a emission system of your car............ now that sound like alot for 1 or sensor what is everthing they are replacing.

RE: O2 Sensor
i have an S500 2001 model. I believe it has 4 sensors. 2 before the Cat and 2 after.
i have also read that after around 50k miles the sensors should replaced because they get a carbon build up after being bathed in exhaust gases for that period of time. I haven't done mine yet.
I have 41k miles on my car.
check out germanparts.com for the cost of the sensors..
