Hi every one, just joined your forum which I found on Google this morning, now I cant get out as I'm hooked already.Congratulations for such a good quality site reminiscent of the car its for, also easy to join and user friendly unlike most out there.I live in a small town in Suffolk UK and I'm a life time loyalist of Mercedes especially E124.I'll take this opportuinity to ask a question.I recently came across a 1996 S600 in a breakers yard,It is very clean inside outside ,I was keen and the breaker even let me start her up and test it,everything seemed okay but there was the distinctive smell of rotten eggs after running for some time? That confirmed what he'd said to me that it needed a catalyst/s.I made a few calls and was supprised, the cheapest which was actually a supplier to the fast fits quoted £459 + vat for each as being a V12 it has two ,the downpipe was £282 + vat ?.Having come from Africa I learnt to improvise from an early age and I thought of a shortcut ?I believe just the word MERCEDES and more so 600 adds a huge premium to the price so what if I buy cheaper similar dimensioned cat/s even if it means abit of cutting and welding to make them fit ? He was asking for £1200 for the car.Mind you it cost £73000 10 years ago. Please comment guys.

Try www.cats4less.co.uk theirs are £332 each inc delivery.
If you decide against this project, would you let me have the breaker's details as a decent wreck would be a very good source of parts for my own 96 S 600.
