I have a 01 Lexus LS430, that has 97K miles and has never been in the shop. I am now considering to replace it with either an 06 S500 or an 06 LS430.

Nedd the pros and cons of the S500. Issues with it maintanence costs, common repairs, what to look out for and of course the positive aspects of it.
I have already called a dealer and got prices for an extended warranty, which is steep 3 yrs and 75K for $3600.00 and 3 yrs and 100K for $6000.00

I did not buy an extended warranty on the Lexus and i have been lucky that I have not needed it so far.

I would also like some help as to what I should be looking for in the car and what I should be aware of and stay away from. I see a lot of good deals on E bay, is it worth buyimng from there. I will only buy a car still under the factory warranty.

I have owned both an LS430 and Mercedes500L. The Mercedes has presence. Only fault so far after 50,000 miles is a failed Alternator which was replaced on warranty. Lexus a heavy car to drive and is not the same quality drive of the Merc, Its up to you. I though would not go back to the Lexus.

 

I bought a 2006 S430 4-Matic with 16,600 miles in November 2007. It now has about 24,000 miles. I have been very happy with the overall presence and performance of the vehicle. I bought a CPO version and, thus, have a 100,000-mile / 5-year warranty. When the time comes, I will likely obtain the extended warranty for the peace of mind.

 

they are both good cars, i personally prefer the benz, i have an 2000 s430 and it works great i had a few simple problems with it but they where minor things and i know that the 06 model is much better.
