HELP! '94 S500 Coupe Headlight Switch Compatibility with Replacement Switch
Ok, like the title says;
HELP!!
My '94 S500 headlight switch was acting funky, (parking lights stopped switching on, but headlight position worked, foglamps didn't light when switched on, dash bad bulb idiot light would go on and off sporadically), and then after a few days of that, stopped working entirely.
Did some homework and found that Advance Auto had a replacement switch in stock, so drove the 1/2 hour to go get it. Part # S10093
Got home, watched a great video on youtube about how to change it, and after struggling for quite a while to get the AC vent off without damaging anything, finally got everything apart and switched out the old unit, which was an easy "plug and play" switcheroo.
Put the **** on lightly to make sure my headlights would now work and they worked fine! Yippee! (Or so I thought!!!)
Reassembled the car and went to out the switch **** back on the way it should be, firmly installed, not just holding it in place to test the lights, and.....
IT WOULDN'T LOCK IN PLACE!
After much cursing and ranting and raving, trying to figure out why it wouldn't stay on, (just falls off, won't lock in place), my lovely wife compared the shaft on the old part with the new one and said:
"Honey, the old one has a bigger shaft for the **** and the shaft has a slot for the little thingy inside the **** to click on to. Your new one doesn't have a shaft that big and it doesn't have that slot for the thingy inside the **** to lock on to."
My wife is NOT a mechanic, (and neither am I), but she is RIGHT. The switch looks the same and is wired the same and everything else is the same, except for the shaft for the **** being different!!!
The old part number from the OEM switch is: 0005456404
The new switch is supposed to be, according to the Advance Auto website, an "exact match".
IT IS NOT.
What do I do NOW???
Is it possible to switch out just the shaft of the switch so I can properly attach the ****??
How do I fix this? Remember, I have to be able to pull the **** out one or two clicks to operate the front and rear fog lamp functions, so as it is not that would just pull it right off!
I hope one of you guys can help me resolve this!!!
