94 S320 starting problems
Below is a posting from Shayne about, 7 messages ago. I have the same problem, let me add alittle to the similiar situation. I have the same miles I haven't done any replacements like Shayne did, but I must add, mine only does this when the car has been sitting in the sun. 85+ degree, 4 hours or more. This happens if the engine is cold or hot, but it only happens after the duration in the sun.I live in far west Texas. Anyhow, when I get the car to start the car runs "rough" you have to give it gas... then it finally levels out about 7 seconds after starting. I haven't replaced the fuel filter since 03. I was thinking it could be the fuel pumps..??(theres 2 by the way) I have replaced the spark plugs though, thats pretty much it. Also I might add after it does start, 5-7 seconds of engine cranking and gas pumping, the engines smokes alittle, just a bit. SO I figure thats extra gas burning. Injectors leaking? Do they need to be replaced or cleaned? Any ideas. I must say I have been adding additives to gas on every fillup, my mechanic said to stop. I must say I need to go to AA for gas additives.
Also when I bought this car from a one owner I had to rebuild the transmission 3k, I hear this is common, is it? These cars don't do well in the heat, they were made for the mild climate of Germany, but the car is so dam classy.

Thanks in advance for your help. I have a 95 S320 with 80K. Recently when I go to start the car, it takes about five to seven seconds of cranking before it will start. I changed the fuel filter with no results, then I replaced the fuel regulator with no results. No codes and no other symptoms. Spark plugs and wires were replaced within the last year. Also recently replaced the engine wiring harness.
I don't hear any noise from the fuel pump and like I said once it starts it runs great. If you turn it off and immediately restart it will do so with no problems. If it sits for awhile or first thing in the morning, it takes 5-7 seconds for the engine to crank.
Any suggestions on what to try next? Should I go ahead and replace the fuel pump. kind of confused without any codes to point me in the right direction. Thanks for your help.
