HELP, I've got a 600SEL and everything on top has been replaced, cam sensors, throttle bodies, harnesses and all new computers, actuators, new converters, etc.
The car will run great for 10-20 miles then starts to miss terribly and by then it's running really rich. I've got a local independent MB tech who will switch the computers around and then it runs great for a little while but it goes back to it's old self as soon as I drive it for 30 minutes or more.
What is there left to replace?? The local dealer in Virginia Beach won't even let me bring the car in as they say it ties up too much time???????????
I hate this car now. Have spent huge money and can't even drive it to the backyard....
Please, send suggestions and yes I'd sell it if I could get all the money I've got in it back but that's not an option so I've got to spend until it's right.
Thanks
Joe

Can relate to 600SEL challenges. I have had similiar issues, but now only withfresh engine start when cold. Once warmed up, all is ok. Replace the fuel filter and air filters if aging and check/replace the fuel pressure regulator if any doubt. My next step is obtaining refurbished fuel inhectors as I sense a fuel leak down problem and/or over-fueling from the injectors, mostly due to age/miles. Hang in there and don't give up. Also consider the 02 sensors and the brake light switch.Do you have any ASR or ABS orASR&ABS dash lights showing? You should get error codes on those issues, but not always are the error codes recorded or show up in a sequence that is consistent.

If I was in that situation I would have it towed to the MB Dealership and trade it in, just to get rid of it. My first Mercedes a 1980 300TD had many problems(NOT BIG ONES JUST LITTLE THINGS THAT ANGER YOU) so after about a year of owning it i traded it in on a 1985 300sd and drove that till 170,000 miles with almost no problems. The point im trying to make is that after a while if a car gives you that much trouble the best thing in my opinion is to just get rid of it.

If I could get something for it then I would consider it but I'm in the hole way too far to sell it for what it's worth. The body and interior are flawless and when it runs it is truly awesome. I just want to fix the thing but no one has come up with the right answer as of yet.
2 local MB dealerships, and 3 independent firms have made a lot of money off of me but no one has got it right yet so this is kind of my last gasp for something concrete...........

Try Kelly Blue Book just for the heck of it. Condition, miles, year ect. Hey You never know with some dealers. If you get lucky they will give you good money for it. For example my cousin when he graduated college had a old corolla with like 150,000 on it and the dealer gave him $6,000 for it on a new C240 4MATIC.

Mine used to do something similar, turned out to be the knock sensor (if you have one). And of course I did eventually replace the 02 Sensors a while later. But what you're describing was pretty much what I was experiencing, and was initially told that it couldn't be the knock sensor because the symptoms were not characteristic of a knock sensor problem, but sure enough, when I insisted that it be changed, the car ran fine! Not saying that this is what your problem is, but I noticed that you didn't mention that it had been changed. It's relatively inexpensive to eliminate another one of the possibles, considering all that you've been through thus far. JMHO.
