ijust purchased, this car took in for smog check in ca it failed due to no check engine lite removed cluster,found factory tape seal,other hole in cluster,installed lamp didnt work emission tag under hood says car is candian owners manual states only cal cars have check engine lite has passed smogs in cal before smog tech stated his manuals that it requires one any help we be appreiated first mercedes sean

try another smog shop let him know up front that is a grey market car (or not from cal, or federal )
which being from canada and having brough here and reg. with dmv it have to have metCARB standards (cal. air research board, epa) . the other guy probably thinking its a federal or cal. car or better yet go to dmv ( i know the wait sucks ) but as them what is the law governing this car . unless the car was just brough down and never registered which mould mean it has no bussiness being here

 

Non California (92)500 SEL did not have a check engine light, they were not installed by the factory. My 92 delivered by Estate Motors MB near Detroit Michigan does not have it either.

 

its not a grey markert car ,checked with dealer first sold in new york,out of state cars or federal,cars still show in two different smog guys books as having check engine lite dealer, couldnt tell me if it had a lite or not need some paper work from manufactuer stating it didint hav e one for referee station still looking

instead of a check engine light, its indicated on your cluster EXT Temp.

 

i took it to referee station it passed referee said it was federal it is not required to have check engine he gave me paper work stating so ,i shouldnt have any more problems thank you for the help
