Default ’86 420 SEL: Bumping in front suspension

Hi, I have a bumping noise; when I tap the brakes while rolling slowly I can reproduce it. I remember hearing this same sound in the first W-126 I ever rode in, back in 1995; it was a high-mileage 300 SDL.I think the ball joint at the cast-aluminum suspension bracket is worn. This appears to be repairable, as it has bolts on a big, square cover. I ordered a "guide rod repair kit". If this is the correct part, is it tricky to repair? There seems to be an adjustment, sort of like a tie-rod end. Any advice/help willbe appreciated.

Default ’86 420 SEL: Bumping in front suspension

Hi, everyone. I did it myself! If anyone faces this, let me know and I will be glad to describe how to do it. It is actually much easier than it might look and does not cost much for the parts.</P>

Amazing. I've been trying to solve this prob with my '86 300sdl. Put 2 new lower ball joints a week ago. Helped some. What did you do?
