Default 2003 S 55 vs S600???

Hi All
I have been watching posts for a while now and have read many of your very well done posts, however I am in need of some advise. I am considering either a 2003 or newer S 55 or S600. Can anyone help me understand the real world differences? I know the basic differences,(V12 Turbo vs V8 Supercharged) but how do they differ in driving? How about maint issues? One more than the other? Does one have different equipment options compared to the other?
Thanks in advance for your advise
Baldy

Alright, performance wise they are almost equal, in fact they list the same 0-60 times.
Now, one has a V-8 and one has a V-12. Some people will question the logic of choosing a V-12 over a V-8 that get the job done just the same. Well many reasons. Now, a V-12 is of course a V-12 so the idle will be extra smooth compared to the v-8 which is also smooth. Now, why do some people choose the V-12, the options. This is the top of the line, this is every option Mercedes can throw into an S-class. Suede roof, a little bit more wood grain, and of course the suspension is not sports tuned like the S55 so it will be more plush to the point you can basically perfrom brain surgery in the back seat, not taht you would want to.

Mainainence: The v-8 have typical maintance of the other v-8s besides the supercharger which up to this point seems to be mostly a non-issue. The V-12 will still be more expspensive to maintain just because, 1, more parts for basic maintainance, instead of 8 you have 12 plugs, and etc. 2, its a little bit more labor intensive. The V-8 already fits pretty snug under that hood but the V-12 leaves almost no space at all so getting to some things under the hood takes a bit more time, which the mechanic will be glad to add to your bill. 3, A mechanic sees a v-12 he see, deep pockets and might charge accordingly. But the maintaince difference over all besides the engine, is minimal. Keep in mind that the V-12 is a bit heavier engine and might wear out the front end a bit quicker. Yet keep in mind you dont want to pick up a S55 that someone been racing all the time and not proper maintance or either one can become a wallet's worse nightmare. But a good one either one is a good choice.

Basically one is more of a sports sedan and the other is you traditional "i have arrived" luxury barge. It's all a matter of taste.
