2002 S500 Tail light replacement
Hi guys,
A co-worker has recently came in possession of this car and will need to replace the driver side tail light. I've been looking for some sort of service manual to show what steps will be required to do the job but haven't been so lucky. Does anyone know of a good source to get the instructions on this or can just give a somewhat detail instructs themselves if they have done this in the past..
Thanks!

Hi,
No "special" instructions.
Just remove RH trunk lining. Nothing out of the ordinary except there are a couple of "Fir tree" studs pushed vertically upwards in the area of the hinge.
Lamp cluster held in with about 5 nuts. Don't miss the one nearest the front of the cluster. Electrics disconnect with multi plug. Need to press latch on the side of the connector in order to remove. Once nuts removed the unit should just push out.
Make sure that the sealing surfaces are clean and free of old gasket when fitting new unit. Don't over tighten.
Use MB original unit or run the risk that the "electrics" may not like a foreign sourced unit.
The brake lights are LED. rather than bulb. and current draw etc is measured by the system. Wrong current and you get a "bulb" malfunction warning.
