RE: 2000 S500 - Good Buy??
It is a roll of the dice, I did it on a 73K 2000 S430 and it has been great. Regardless of experiences or opinions here, MB cars as a group are not reliable based on JD power, Consumer Reports surveys, or any number of other sources. Buick, Lincoln,Hyundai, Lexus, Acura and many others are more reliable. That information did not stop me from buying mine.

RE: 2000 S500 - Good Buy??
I had a 2000 S500 and liked it a lot. As you may know, 2000 was the first year of issue for the car. Like all cars, the first year has more little problems. As such, unless there is something special about the particular car you're looking at, You might consider a 2001. I liked my S500 a lot and had put about 60,000 miles on it when I sold it. I had the usual instrument cluster failure, which is now covered by Mercedes if it happens. I think the only real trouble spots you may want to look for concern the airmatic suspension. There apparently is some sort of fitting that attaches the air lines to the front struts that is prone to failing, and it is the one thing that I'd have someone look at before I bought the car. In looking at them, the S500 has features that make it a good choice among the various models. What color is the car and what is the asking price?
