1992 600EL
I have a '92 600SEL and I have a lot of problems that I want to solve. I'd like to start off by saying that this car has been in a front end collision and might be the reason some of these components don't work. I'll try to start from the begining. First my reset button keeps turning on and draining the battery after I turn off the car, right now the only way for me to stop it from draining the batter is for me to stick a little piece of paper in between 2 buttons to push the reset button down so it doesn't activate. Second a lot of the electronics just don't work properly, like the locks don't always pop up on some doors, the sunroof has troubles closing sometimes, the electronics for the seats just suck sometimes and give out, the windshield whipers stop working from time to time which can get really bad, the window in the rear by the driver doesn't go down, also the electronic key door opener doesn't work on the passenger side. Third the lock on my driver side just stopped working, I stick my key in the lock and turn it from side to side and its just really lose and nothing happens the doors don't unlock. All these things were happening before my dad happened to fry some of the componenets by accidently switching the jump start cables the wrong way one of the times my battery had died, after that incident my stock radio stoped working and shows E 2 when I try to turn it on and from time to time my clock doesn't work either, would anything else be fried from that incident that I don't know off? I also used to have 2 oil leeks but I had resolved one when I was in California but the mechanic didn't have time for the second one, but that and the a/c is getting resolved this upcoming year. What I am wondering do any other 600 owners get the same symptoms? and if so how did some people resolve them? I also would like any input on how I can affordably fix these problems, because I don't have much money and I really love this car so I want to be able to fix it and have it running to its full potential. So if anybody has ideas on any of these problems please please tell me how to fix them. Thank you in advance.

So you think the best thing for me to do is to have a mercedes dealership check it out? Every single time my dad has sent it to be checked out they charge him thousands of dollars and do nothing to fix anything. Can you please go into more detail about what I can do to fix these problems myself? if I can fix them myself. Like how would I clean out the reset button or clean out the dirty wires or connectors? and about the radio what do you mean no power to amplifier/cd player? I don't have a cd player or changer and I wasn't aware there was an amplifier. Sorry for me being so ignorant, but I barely know anything about my car.

okay, let's start from the beginning.
first i need your chassis or VIN number. from there, i would know what we're talking about.
all those problem may have a common source... electrical surge and could be only from a certain area.
let's locate them one by one... i will take your word that you can fix them by yourself.

RE: 1992 600EL
Ok thanks, I have a couple questions before I start, isn't the radio have some type of anti radio theft system? And also after I take all of that out how would I clean the restet button? Do I just take off the button and clean it off? or.....? and what would I clean it with rubbing alcohol?

RE: 1992 600EL
you got an amplifier on the rear, but first we check the radio since you will open that area anyway.
E is the fuse. check if it got power and that it is not broken.
connector A pin number 4 also should have power all the time.
connector A pin number 7 should have power when you switch on the ignition.
