I'm getting ready to change my oil for the first time on my R500. I'm using a vacuum pump to get the oil out, but is the filter accessible from the top or the bottom of the engine? Any advice on installing the cartridge? Is there a spin-on filter adaptor available?

oil filter is on top of the engine. if you lift up the front of the engine cover you will see the top of it on the drivers side (left)of the vehicle. there is a special cup to remove it. I guess you may be able to get one at a local parts depot. maybe very carefully with a pair of channel locks or a strap style filter.
The fleece filter is just a pull it off the housing and replace, you'll see when you get it off. USE ONLY AN FLEECE MB FILTER
