I have a 2000 ML320 (Sport Edition - has a nifty AMG tailpipe - )

The other day the fuel guage reserve light started to blink. I found nothing on this in the manual. But, found on-line that one cause could bealoose gas-cap (fuel system not sealed). After making sure thegas-cap was on tight - I restarted the engine. The light was off for a little bit (maybe 10miles) -but, then came back on (blinking). After several ofthe abovecycles, the engine light came on.

The vehicle has almost 100k miles - and is long out of warrenty.

I am handy at most repairs - but, do not even know where to begin.

I suspect the first thingI need to do is get the OBD code(s).

Is there a way to get these codes without have to purchase hardware/software?
