Default Loss of power 1998 ML 320

After my Benz warms up It won't hardly go when I push down on the accelerator. It seems like it is not getting any gas. It doesn't happen all the time but I really notice it when I stop at a stop light and take off. It seems to be worse when I have the a/c on. When it does this I can let off of the accelerator and push it down real quick and it will take off. Any idea's on what the problem might be????

Shouldn't that cause the check engine light to come on?
