We just got an ML 500 2002 model 70K Miles about 8 weeks ago. Did excellently until about 3 days ago when it just stalled and stopped while driving. Fisrt, the lights kept coming up one by one and then the sound system and display kept copming on and off as if something was loosing and restablishing contact. It wouldnt start anymore. An ispection by specialists showed a blown COIL FUSE and it was replaced. The monster immediately roared to life when ignited. This only lasted for about 1 day after which the same thing happened all over again. I did not want anything to go wrong so, I simply parked it and reverted to my old reliable 1998 E 220. Any ideas what went wrong?

My 03 ML-350 had a simular problem and it was part of the security system that malfunctioned. The car would die, everything would go dead like the battery was disconnected, but I could still spin the engine when trying to start it, but it wouldn't start. Leave the car alone for a few minutes and try again and it would start right up. A day later, same thing again. They replaced the computer and some module in the security system and I never had that problem again. I'd scan the service paperwork and e-mail it to you but I destroyed all my records after I traded the thing in. Good luck, but I'm afraid this likely won't be your last problem with your ML...

 

Well, was it the alternator ?? I have the same car withe about the same miles , so I really want to know .

I was the alternator. I got it fixed and I am fine now.
