Default Help with radio codes? Please?

I had the ac compressor replaced by an independent shop and they had to disconnect the battery at some point. Now I need a security code to get the radio to work. I've read on here in many places I need to call the dealer, so I did. Yeah, no help there unless I want to drive a couple of hours there and back to just show them my registration. Then they're already suggesting its gonna cost about $120 (they're expecting to have to pull the radio to look at the bottom even though it's the original stock radio. ) So, this is a call out to forum heros that can save me.
Year: 2001
Model: ML320
VIN: 4JGAB54E51A230755

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Call the service manager at your closest dealer and ask him nicely to fax you your VIN's VMI (vehicle master inquiry). It will list all the options, paint codes, radio code, recall campaigns and vehicle service history. I got them for my ML and for my Lexus without showing any proof of ownership.
Pulling the radio out will not do any good since there is no code label on your unit and every stolen radio will come with code and security protection would be useless.
Good luck, Bernard
