Default central locking ml270 cdi

I have a 2001 ML270cdi - the key fob will not work for the central locking -I have changed batteries and reset the key - this still does not work (spare keyfob not working either) - someone please help!! I can lock the car from the central console and then lock driver door with the key.

If the FOBs are original for your car then you may not have the correct reset or resynchronization procedure. I have 99 ML320 and I believe my owner's manual was wrong, later I've tried different sychronization steps and both of them are working for me (one was dead for few years). Good luck, Bernard

Thanks for that, but can you tell me what synchronizations you used.

Try these steps, I can't find my notes but I believe these are the correct steps:

1) Get in and close all the doors.
2) insert your key into the ignition cylinder
3) turn the key to position 2 (do not start)
4) turn the key off, remove it and within 10 seconds
5) press & HOLD the lock button
6) press the unlock button 5 times
7) release the lock button
8) press any other button on the remote (ie tailgate) to end and finalize resynchronization

You only have10 seconds to do the entire procedure but both of my remotes worked on first try. Hope this will help and work for you.

Try this: All doors closed, turn key to pos.2 then remove. Within 60sec. push and hold Lock button for 15 seconds. Now press Unlock 5 times. This is the procedure in manual. You can buy used working FOB on e-bay but you have to open it up (by 150F heat or by razor blade like I did) andswitch over your key blade and small chip (RFID low frequency fixed code transponder) that is right next to the blade opening mechanism inside of the remote held down by white plactic.
Other option is to go to a dealer and pay $40 for each to be reprogramed for your vehicle. Sorry that I can't help you out any better. Bernard

I have removed batteries from one of my FOBs for 3 days to try it out and make sure! The first sequence worked on first try: hold lock while pressing unlock 5 times!

Greetings from Finland, helped also me with my ML 270 (2004). And yes, this could be found in the manual, too, but because I thought the key was broken (they really couldn't help me even in MB official service!) I never even happened to think about this possibility.
