2007 ML320cdi "Check Engine" warning light

Dear Benz Friends: my car starting showing this light this week. My car is behaving strangely in that it a couple of times recently it won't hardly accellerate. Anybody have any thoughts?

To get the code read, does one need to take it to a dealer or can one download the info to a laptop or smart phone?

Get a cheap code reader form Ebay and Google the code that comes up..

Auto zone provided the diagnostic.

Code is P1402 (perhaps EGR valve). Anybody have a take on this code and difficulty of the repair?
