Exclamation 2003 ML350: need input on intake

whats up guys, i just took the lid off of my air filter box so air is being sucked directly into the intake hose. im feelin that i got somewhere around 10HP from it, but thats only gonna be like this until i buy my intake. im lookin for input on anyone who reads this. what do you think good idea or bad?

I think it's a great idea as long as you provide sufficient air filtration otherwise dust will wear out your engine's piston rings fairly quickly loosing compression and your extra HP with it. Just my tought.

I would stretch at least thin shop rag through the tubing and tie all 4 corners of it with duct tape to the intake pipe. You never know what can get sucked in. I wouldn't take any chance, otherwice engine damage can easily occur!

Can you feel the HP gain? Because you sucking more gas, computer will match amount of air and gas to perfect mixture. Same as pressing your gas pedal deeper. Your OEM filter will give your engine more then enough air needed unless is very dirty. I also believe that you are making a big mistake here but it is your ride. If K&N is so much better, don't worry, it would be installed in every Mercedes and all other luxury cars streight from the factory! Good luck with your project!
