Default Worried About Wiring Harness Insulation Failure

[&o]I just witnessed a very worrying sight .. my mechanic was working on a 1995 C280 (104 engine) and he was replacing the majority of the wiring harnesses ... what a job. It seems that the wiring harnesses were procured from a company in Turkey on low bid and the wiring insulation is breaking down. Seems the insulation is made from recycled bio-materials and breaks down when subject to repeated heat cycles. Gosh what a sigh to see all the wiring harnesses splayed out all over the place. I could not believe the extent of failure of the insulation. My guy repeatedly opened up harness after harness and showed me how all the insulation was affected. The total replacement job was going to run about $3000.

Does anyone know if this problem extended to 1996 E320? That is what I own. I can't bring myself to check the harnesses. It would be a nightware for me to discover this problem.

Thanks a lot guys.
