Found the oil filter for my 95 E320 wagon that I purchased recently. Glad to see that I'm not only one to have trouble finding it. Now what wrench do I need to get it out?[>:]

I have a 74 and 76mm 15 pt oil filter wrench to go on a 3/8 socket drive that I got from Napa. Looks like it should fit, but it doesn't. I looked in there and tried to count the # of sides on the filter cap, and I thought I counted 14, but it was real hard to see down there. Went to Napa and got a 14 pt wrench but it is only 67mm. Way too small[&:]. Would not have bought that if I was paying attention.

What wrench do I need? Is it commonly available or do I need to get a special MB oil filter wrench? I changed my oil 2 weeks ago now and I still have the old filter in there.

 

74mm 14 point is right.

 

I think maybe it should be 76mm. Are you sure 74mm is correct? I got the 73mm one from Napa, but it's just a little too small. It says 76 actually, so I finally measured it and it is only about 73. Went to another auto parts store and they had a 73mm 14pt for sale. Probably the same one, just labeled correctly. My 76mm 15pt fits on there, but it's not 14 pt.

How do you all get your oil filters out? If it wasn't so tight, I could get it with my hand. Should I try to order one online? Maybe I'll buy one of universal oil filter wrenches and try that.

 

not really so tight at 21Nm.

if you got strong grip, you can easily turn it. the only problem is that on 104 engine, the space is a little tight.

74mm is correct because i check the oil filter wrench.

no need to order online. such things can be found on gas station grocery store or on car accessories shop. adjustable or strap type will do also.
