I have a 2000 E320 4matic, when im driving the car does not shift out of first gear. I have to turn the car off or take my foot off the brake to put it back in park. Does anyone know what the problem coul possibly be?

 

you could have a couple different problems. most of the time is what happens when there is a problem with your transmission it goes into what is called limp home mode and the trans ggoes into a self protect mode and it puts the car in first gear. more than likley you have a internal problem with your trans to be able to tell more about it you need to get the codes read and go from there.

 

Thanks for the response, but should i go to the dealer because i had my mechanic check the codes and he couldn't find anything. The car is sitting now and im still trying to resolve the problem hoping its not an exspensive one.
