Default ticking / clicking relay? in my 1987 260E

Last month I purchased a 1987 260E with just 80k miles. After minor cosmetics, we have a great car considering the $2500 purchase price. During my last trip in the car, I noticed that a tick sound started coming from the passenger side front interior, sounds like it is coming from under the glove box. It sounds like a relay? ticking similar to the sound that the blinkers make. Once you shut the car off, it still DOES NOT stop. The ony way I can get the ticking to stop is to disconnect the battery. Once I reconnect battery, it starts again. I have not noticed anyting that does not work properly, making this a bit of a mystery. Clicks regardless of what accessory is turned on or off. Before I tear into the interior, I wanted to ask anyone if they had any thoughts as to what might be ticking? Thanks for any help.

Default ticking / clicking relay? in my 1987 260E

I have an ´96 Diesel and this tickering appears during the warm up phase of the motor. Itsounds from the heating valves. These valves are on the left side ( when you stand in front of the car ) just near the box for theair condition. They are twins and about 40 -50 mm high, just like film-boxes for fotografing.

In my Diesel it ends, when the motor temperature ist right. The mechanicans say I have to change them - or not. There was an article in a german Car Magazin, that even new VW - Sharan Diesel have this tickering.

Maybe it will help you (sorry, my english is not so good ).

Greetings

Did you find out what was happening to your car - I have the sme problem with the clicking under the glove box - but my 1985 380 is also stalling while I am driving and I cannot get it to start until the clicking stope. I removed the door light fuse from my fuse box and that makes the clicking stop.
