on the floor underneath the passenger seat, you can find it too..or on the windscreen, driver side.. or on the B pillar... or on the trunk speaker bracket from the trunk.

Should be chassis 230. I have a 99 300TD, too. Have you had good luck with yours? Did you buy it new?

I have mixed feelings about the car. Bought it last year with 70 k on it. I basically like the car but it having stupid little problems that can be major headaches. Left running light decided not to work. Bulb and fuse is good, computer decided it shouldn't work. Only way of fixing is got to the shop.
Temperature gage in nuts.
CAr pitches and rolls like a pig when pushed. I actually rate as one of the worst handling cars ever owned. Planning on putting on Blistiens.
I like to work on things, I find the Mecedes mystique totaly stupid. No manuals available. I did manage to get a German after market manual.
Worst car ever owned in the snow. The traction control does everything possible to make sure you don't move in the snow. My wife refuse to drive it now in snow.
I love the engine so far. Comfortable on long trips. Milage is great, 28-32 mpg very consitantly.
I don't think I would buy another though.
