Default Better safe than sorry

Sir,
Congratulations on your purchase. Sounds like a beautiful ride. Good stuff.

You can go two ways.... Do it yourself or pay an independant MB mechanic to do the following:

Change the oil and filter. (easy to do yourself - check out this forum for step by step instructions.) Check the forum for the proper weight / type. You make the call.
Change the tranny fluid and filte- harder to DIY. USE MB approved fluid only.
Change the air filter
Optional - brake fluid
Optional - power steering fluid
Recommended - flush and fill the radiator fluid using MB approved fluid.

If you do these basics, (recommend having the A/C charged/inspected just for peace of mind) you should set yourself up for success. Let us know what you decided to do. Good luck on your new ride!

hello all nice forum you guys have here, been doing lots of reading and learning alot. I am looking at a 96 E320 to buy. it has 170k on the clock and is the second owner. Now i have bought used cars before. i do my own work mostly on them. but i dont know to many ppl that have benz. So i ask you experts he is asking 3900 for the car and i can post pics. It looks very very clean. is that a good deal? how many miles do these motors do if you keep up on the basic stuff. thanks for all your help with this choice.

Part from add
1996 Mercedes E-320
170k easy commute miles

Completely Loaded, Leather, Moonroof, Cd changer, All power, Everything Works.

I bought this car from the original owner who did all of the maintenance at 120k miles. I used the car as a commuter and had absolutely no problems with it. I did all the maintenance through my son who works at a car dealership. I am selling because I will be driving very few miles now and have decided to spoil myself and get a Brand new E-class since I loved this one. Someone is going to get an awesome super reliable car. This car is loaded and very clean.

I have a 1990 300 CE with 178,000 miles and it is still a great ride and a 1986 300E with 129,000, looks and drives almost as well as it did 21 years ago!

I had and sold a 1999 E320, foolishly got rid of it in 2008 with 205,000, still running great, just needed an extra quart of oil every 2000-2500 miles. I then got a 2002 BMW 525i that handles very well, rides great, looks great, but I really don't care for it, as it is difficult for a bigger guy like me to get in and out of all day, which I have to do in sales. My other car now is a 2000 E320 with 170,000 on it, eats oil at about the same rate, but I much prefer it as my daily driver. I am now considering trading the BMW with 111,000 for a 2004 E320 with 129,000! So, I'll have to decide each morning, "Do I drive the 320, or... the 320!!" Do you think I like 320's?!

Smile Betty M

Betty M is a 2007 E-320, Diesel. 68,000 miles. For about a year I commuted to work, round trip of 80 miles, now I am down to 6 miles/day. I have taken her from Dallas, TX to Mobile, Al, and all major cities in Texas. No problems. I am in love with her and can't see myself ever selling her. It is a joy just to look at her.

Thanks for this forum.

Hi I'm new to the forum as well and will no doubt be asking many questions over the next short while.

I recently purchased my first Mercedes: a 2005 E500 4matic with 15,240 miles (25,400 kms). It's pewter in color and has an immaculate ash interior. I look forward to putting many miles on her!!! I've already started the hunt for parts to upgrade her to look like an AMG.

Hi, I'm new to the forum and I just bought my first benz, an E430 Sport (2000) with just a bit under 70,000 miles. It has a silver exterior and black leather interior. I'd like to do some modifications with the wheels, tires, lights, etc. But, first I would like to take care of some of the maintenance things such as changing all of the fluids, replacing the brakes and rotors, water pump, timing belts, etc. The one thing I am having a problem with right now is the driver seat won't go all the way back and I need to know if anyone else out there has had that problem and if so, what can I expect in terms of repairing it? Is it expensive or an easy fix for a do it yourselfer? I was told it might be something in the track and nothing more but, I've owned BMW's in the past and I had a problem with the driver seat and it turned out the motor had to be replaced. I hope a lot the basic stuff I can do on my own.

My wife's favorite car is the Benz, she has owned a 87 300e and now she has a 97 C-280. She doesn't want to get rid of it yet, because she doesn't care for the new body style.
