Default Smart Key

My Smart Key will lock and unlock the door but when I insert the key I can't turn the key into position 2, the key just stays in position zero. This happened after I checked one of the tires with a jack, activating the tow protection, and tried to start the engine.

Can someone help me? How can I turn off the tow protection? My car is a E430 1998.

Thanks.

there should either be a button on the dash, and an option in the multi function display. of course, i suppose you cant access th mulitfunction without the key on, huh?

there should be a section in the owners manual that explains the entire function of the tow sensor. i know it sounds dumb, but those things can be incredibly helpful. it probably says something about how to reset the sensor once its been tripped.

My E300TD won't make start circuit; New battery, Mercedes road service spent 4 hrs trouble shooting and could bypass start circuit and spin engine over but was no fuel. They said there was a start signal into the fuse/relay module with start relay but no signal out . I purchased new module but no change, its like there is a start lockout in play preventing start curcuit initiation. The air/vacuum pump next to the battery in rear seat short cycles when key is in the "on" position. when key is off I can hit remote door lock and the pump comes on momentarily for 1 short cycle to make up the air loss for locking.appears there is an air leak when key is in the "on' position.Help , thanks, Don
