Default running too rich/rough/hardstart

Hi,

I have a 1986 mercedes 300e. This car is running too rich/burning alot of fuel.
Also would the engine timing cause rich running.

When the car is idleing it shuts off, and seems to be missing (firing).

Do you know of any books that could help diagnose this problem?

What about fuel mixture how could this be adjusted/fixed?

This vehicle also starts hard what would be the cause of this, is there any chip in the staring/ignition module?

thanks
TAJ

It sounds asif somebodys been tampering with the fuel hoses. fit new 8mm ones and more importantly a non return fuel valve, this will certiannly cure the hard starting. (which is definitly due to fuel loss.)

To cure the rich running fit a new FRAM air filter. (No, timing will not cause rich running but clogged air filters will gaurantee it!) the missing is most likely due to a done spark plug. go to a Bosch parts agent and order SUPER 4 SPARK PLUGS. (part number for your and my car HR78) These will make a huge diffrence in starting etc as it did in my 87 w124 200 (bored 2.3).

buy a w124 owners bible as this will tell you what every last nut and bolt is for!
