Default Question on rebuilt engines

My 1990 300CE was starved by lack engine oil as the oil pan had a big crack.
It appears that I have to get a rebuilt engine, one mechanic suggested a
company called LKQ Corp. out of California. They offer a 2 year warranty.
Is this a good reliable company?? their reputation of the engines they sell.
Mechanic said the cost of the rebuilt engine is $1500 including freight and than
they have like some core charge. Dealer will sell at $4700 from MB.
Any suggestions would be helpful. Am in San Antonio, also need recommendation
of a honest mechanic here as I do most of thr work but I don't have a lot of time
and possibly right tools.
Thanks
