Default P0335

Recently my wife's 2005 E320 displayed the check engine light. I hooked up the scanner tool which showed a P0335 code - crank position sensor malfunction. Cleared the code and was fine for several days and then reappeared. I understand what this is but where is it? And is it possible the connectors just need a good cleaning? If so what's the best method?
Not sure I'd want to risk it on a long trip.
Any help is appreciated.

crank sensor is on the back of the engine on the top left side, right in front of the bell housing. common problem on the M112 engine, should be replaced right away or it will cause a hot no start condition. you will need an e10 socket (specialty external torx) on 1/4 inch drive with a u-joint and a 1 foot extension. you usually cant see the bolt while youre installing the part, it kinda sucks if you havent done a few...

Thanks for the info. It actually did fail to start one day but was OK after waiting awhile. Thankfully I already had the part ordered. My sensor was actually an E8 bolt but no big deal if you have the correct tool - and I'll always take a good excuse to buy more tools. However, I couldn't get the connector loose until after I got the sensor out and could bring it up to use both hands.
The sad part is I called the local M-B dealer, who owns many dealerships not to mention a race team, and got the runaround as to how much it would cost for them to fix the problem.
But it's fixed now!
