Default Overdue Service Message

I had my MB oil changed by a local mechanic who didn't "notify" the onboard computer that it was done. I now get a message that I'm overdue for service. Is this a big deal and if so, where can I get it adjusted without going to a dealer who would no doubt overcharge me? At this point, it's just a minor annoyance , I think.

If you local oil change guy didn't know how to reset the light are you sure he used the correct oil and filter? At my dealer we overcharge you $128 for an A service. This is with a fleece filter and 229.5 approved oil. You also get the rest of the service! Even a car wash. If you get overcharged at your dealer at least find a good local indi who knows what he is doing to keep your car in top shape. Trying to save $30 or $40 a year is not worth the long term effect of using the wrong oil and filter for 10000-13000 miles.
