oil pressure gauge

I just purchased a '91 300E and it's my first car with an oil pressure gauge. I was just wondering what normal readings should be- during normal driving it reads all the way up, i.e. 3, and idling at lights etc it flickers slightly around 2. is this normal?

Also it has a few miles on it (192k) and although it's been dealer serviced I don't think the head gasket has been done- should I look to replace it soon?

one last thing- the bulb for the auto gear selector lights is out- anyone know how to get at it and replace it?

cheers...

your oil pressure sounds very normal. Each (bar) is approx. 15 psi so if your reading 2 bar at idle than equals 30psi. Plenty of oil pressure. When it's 100'F outside and my engine is around 90 to 95'C my oil pressure will drop between the 1 and 2. Nothing to be alarmed about, NORMAL!!

I wouldn't worry about the head gasket unless you have problems right now. My guess is you might need a valve job before you need a head gasket with 192k miles on it, but if everything runs fine than I wouldn't worry about it.

And as far as the light bulb goes I've never done. It looks fairly straight forward though.
