Default newbe here 300td questions

I just purchased a 99 300 td. Being I like to work on the cars myself I want to get manuals. Ubfortunately Mercedes says no. ANy suggestions would be appreciated.
What is the oil specification for this engine?
What is a good source of filters and parts?
Thanks
Paul

For parts you can go to www.europartsdirect.com or www.thebenzbin.com. As for oil, I'm not too sure, but if it were me I would just use 20-50. You can't go wrong with 20-50 unless you live in freezing temperatures, and the viscosity of the different oil grades is really designed just to give you the most protection against wear at startup. (Oil pressure must build up and temperature can hinder.)

If you are patient, eBay.com has them occasionally. There are several manuals that make up a complete set. The "Chassis" manual discusses most of the items found in the interior of the vehicle. Other include "Engine", "Electrical Troubleshooting", "Heating and A/C"... hmm, what else.

Mercedes recommends synthetic oil for this diesel engine (Mobil 1, for example). Search the web for Mercedes parts. There are many good sites and the prices vary depending on what you're looking for. Good luck!

I use engine oil by Mobile1 0W40 as recommeded by the dealer for my 99 300 td. We just changed oil at the 10k interval , even though some truckers go 25k intervals. I purchased oil filters from Performance Parts and expect to purchase the Service manuals from them also.
