Default miss fire noise

Hi I have a 98 e 200 automatic, it runs fine and I have just recently got it serviced. In the last 2 weeks when I put my foot on the accelerater to overtake it as usual drops a couple of gears but I get a strange bang from the front of the engine , now I could do this 30 tiomes and it will only happen once or it may not happen at all................any ideas...thankds guys

where is the air mass sensor and why do u think it would be the air filter...............thanks

if your engine is not CIS-E or mechanical injection, you must have an air mass sensor just after the air cleaner.

clogged air filter causes backfire or hesitation during accleration. with little supply of air and rich fuel.

better you tell us your engine type. we can avoid these confusions.

Thanks again for your reply my car is an e 200 classic , 2 litre petrol automatic transmission.
would I be able to clean the air filter myself or shopuld i bring it back to my mecanic as I said it is just serviced recently..thanks again

your engine is 111.942

you got air mass sensor (air mass meter, HFM, mass air flow sensor, etc.).

not to sure if ur asking me if i have these are that i do have them ....so do u reckon that the sensor id faulty and needs replacing ..and could this be done by myself or by mecanic and is it expensive to be replaced,

sorry for the confusion .....do u think there is a fault with the air mass sensor....
or is it the air filter...... is this senser expenssive to replace...thanks

better have the mechanic check it first. restricted exhaust pipe can cause backfire too... and so are the ignition components.
