C280... blowing out the carbon... I like that excuse. I do it frequently. Don't get me wrong... I drive in a very calm and stately manner on a daily basis... but every now and then... when a good tune is playing and I am certain that I won't endanger anyone else... I let my E run... she love the interstate. ... blowing out the carbon... yeah... that's what I do... Ha! Long live the W210 chassis!
Yes I do it a couple times a year. When I first get the 420SEL and the E320 out I blow them both out and before I put them away. I leave the C280 out all year and it only gets driven on the Highway so every once in awhile I will let the little 2.8 bring out 200bhp.

BLOW IT OUT BOYS!!
It's the child in us having fun.

Now older it is something I do on an empty road, and tach it up. Take it up near the tire speed rating, hold it for awhile, and let it breath.
Radar detector poised for the obvious reason, Radio off( cause I like to hear the RPM) and hold her down for awhile. YES!!!

It is not often you do it, because traffic court is a pain in the assets, and it is something you do on that known stretch where the cops don't congregate, (usually) and hopefully some twisties are involved as well.

Life is good for a time. In the right car it is a pleasure, and a thrill.

Ohlord.
Any advice on the starting year for drive by wire?

It might be easier if you tell us what year this throttle by wire began, rather than answering individual inquiries.

I also ask, since my 96 E-320 is a dog until 40 mph and then all gets nicely radical. I love it in a passing scenario, or just plain laying it down on an open stretch of road.
Not like my muscle cars , or the sports cars i've owned, on the handling. Overall it has been a great car for general use, and does most things very well. Not gangly handling like the Lincoln Mk 7 I had.
Do hate the electrical bugs. That is this cars downfall as I see it, but I haven't owned it long (7 months).

When did thottle by wire come in, as I too have a 1996 E-320 auto which is slow on the throttle when its warmed up but has poor gear change when cold, I can live with the poor gear change but having to push the throttle hard down to make go and it’s a pain, I also have a Toyota corolla and you only have to look at that throttle and its gone which can be a bit hairy when you change from one car to the other. :)

I'm wondering if this re-set work on a 98 Turbodiesel??

Also some cars that have been driven in a stately manner will go from very docile shift points back to the much firmer higher rpm factory settings,so use you foot accordingly.
some cars wake up more then others in response to the reset.
While you are waiting a few minutes to go for a drive, take that time to check your oil, examine your belt, look around and enjoy day.

RE: make your E Class accelerate as soon as you push the gas

WOW!!! My 96 C220 runs like new. After replacing gobs of stuff, I found this thread late last night. It was the tranny. No more shaking, no missing on acceleration, and no stopping to shut down and start again.
Thank you ohloard for sharing your wisdom.

There is a God.
