realize of course this forum is a bit biased but...I thought I had my mind made up on the Infinit M35x then I test drove a 2006 E350. Although not as full of torque as the m35, the E was certainly felt more refined. I am looking at a 2006 e500 4Matic sedan now that should be the best of both worlds. The E has around 49k miles. Anything I should be careful of with the E500 or anything I should be sure to check? Is the airmatic suspension as problematic as I am reading?This would be my first MB so I lack an history with the brand. Thanks.

 

I just drove my wife's '05 E500 4matic this morning from South Fork, CO to Denver on twisty mountain roads, about 250 miles. My normal driver is a BMW M5, so I know what a tremendous car feels like.

The whole drive I was constantly telling myself what a terrific car this was. The smooth ride, endless torque, and predictable handling was very enjoyable. There are so many great cars out there, and you would never buy a Mercedes purely for reliability, but in this depressed market where you can pick one up for the price of a new Chevy Impala, about 25K, it's a great choice. I wouldn't trade it for anything. My brother has an Infiniti G35X, and it's a great car, but doesn't feel anywhere near as solid as a Mercedes.

I got 22 mpg going 80 mph, for the record.
