Default Looking to buy my first Mercedes

Its a 1989 260E for 7-800$ Its not perfect but some of the main issues I wanted to know about addressing are that the fuel and tach do not work and the ABS light is on. There is also a small tranny leak but the engine and tranny run and shift perfectly. Also are there any other models that parts will interchange with on this car such as the 190 or 124?

Seem worth it?

$700 to $800 ? Take it to a Mercedes mechanic and ask how much to fix everything. If it costs you $2,000 to fix it, you'll still havea good car for less than $3,000.
Sounds good to me.

what crack are you smoking, a dealer will charge atleast 1200 to fix the trans leak. What work do you expect to get done for less then 2K at the dealer.

I agree with Parshman15, the bill from the dealer is always outrageous, they also are, from my experience terrible at diagnosis for older cars I have an 89 300E also the 124 is that car that is the chassis the difference is in the powerplant. The car looks prety rough but for the low price and pending the mileage a little investment could make it functional. I also have a 90 300E 2.6 which is essentially the same and they really are wonderful and reliable cars.

I just posted a solution to the abs light on the e320 forum. Try putting on the parking brake, starting the car, pressing the foot pedal, then driving. Your abs light may just disappear.

Let me know the result
