Left side lights '87 300E
I have been having some fun with the left side tail lights. The tail light is okay but the problem is that the side marker light is out which lights up the annoying "light out" message light on the dash. If it were not for that I would just ignore it.
When looking at the wiring diagram for them they share a common ground and "appear" to combine somewhere up the line as the diagram gets crowded. The tail light has a green w/black stripe the marker has a green w/white band mark.
Here's what's strange... If I jump a wire from the tail light to the marker light then the marker light goes on and also the dash indicater goes out. This leads me to believe that I get power to feed back into the lighting control to fake it out. I'm not sure if this is a particularly good idea since I'm not entirely sure what would happen if I left it that way. And I cannot find another source for the problem of the marker light being out.
I tried different bulbs, multi-meter, etc. and it definintly has no power going to it. I can't discern exactly what fuse would control the thing but no fuses are bad. Also, the left rear taillight has it's own 8amp fuse for some odd reason.
Anybody have ideas? Should I just get a piece of tape and place it over the dash light and forget about it?
