just replaced the 2 batteries inside the key fob. it still wont open or close the door locks and wont turn inside the ignition. if i open the car door with the key inside, it starts beeping and says please take key, or something of that sort.

any advice on what i should try before having to get it towed?

can we narrow it down to the key being bad? since the door locks and the ignition issues are both present?

are you sure the car battery is good. sounds like a dumb question but thats what it sounds like. even if the batteries are totally dead or not even in the remote it will still start the car. yes it could just be a bad key too. go get a new one at the dealer for about 150 bucks probably closer to 200 bucks. its always good to have a back up key with a Benz.

I am having the same problem with my 1998 c280. I tried to replace the batteries in my key and now the key is not working and the car won't start! I called triple A, they tried to jump my car and it didn't help. They checked my battery and said it was fine.

How can I start this car?
