Odd
Lately I've been having a similar problem in which I put in the key and no clicking sound. From time to time I have had to pull the key out and put it in a few times before it gets "recognized" as the key. Bizarre.
Anyone else have this problem?

I sent you a PM but also try leaving the key in the ignition for a few seconds before trying to start also asscuddog said try taking out the key and inserting it again, but the first thing would be to make sure the car battery is good first.

e430 key not working
This also happened to me exactly as discribed by Phillybenz Club.
At that moment I was out of town with my family and hundreds of miles from any technical help, so I called a guy I know that repairs MB electronic egnition keys, here's what he asked me to do.......
Open the key and take out the circuit, procedure as if to replace the battery inside the key.
On top of the key circuit board, at its tip, there is a coil on a round former, soldered to two terminals on oposite side of the round former.
Test that coil for continuity and if that coil is "öpen circuit" then you got your culprit there, there should be continuity between the two terminals.
Mine was open circuit!
I used a magnifying glass to check and found that my coil was broken at one of the terminals, a careful isolation of the broken wire's-tip, clean off the insulation on the wire and used a soldering iron with a bit of soldering lead to reterminate the wire, tested to unsure I had continuity, re-assembled the key and bing!!!!!!! it worked, the key "cliked" on contact and I drove home.
Key have been working since then, no further issues.
