Jumping ship from Volvo to Mercedes? Help?
Hi everyone,
I'm a Volvo guy, love the 240's. My 1989 240 wagon has died and I'm looking for a new one. This time as a married man, I need to go a little newer, AC, a bit smoother ride, not so chewed up etc. etc. I've been thinking a 92 740, or up to a 95 940. (They get really complex after 95 so I'm told)
I work from home (glassblower) so my driving mainly consists of running errands around town during the week. A couple of times a month I'll drive up to 300 miles in a day to go deliver orders/meet clients etc. I need a wagon because as my business expands I'm working more and more craft shows. The loads I haul are not heavy, just bulky.
I'm looking at 94 e320 with 150K for $2500 obo. I know nothing about your breed of german engineering. If it was a Volvo I'd hit the brickboard and ask this guy about every Volvo issue that I can.
So here are my questions?
-Is there a place like the brickboard for Mercedes? Buyers guides, repair advice? pages and pages of faqs on everything about your car that could possibly break?
-if this is that site, where should I look?
-so what do you think? Unless I need to put my car on 4 jackstands and drop a transmission I try to do as much work as possible. Is a Mercedes frightningly complicated? or kinda friendly like working on a Volvo?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

The E class wagon is great car. Tons of E Class wagon owners there. 150K is a lot and far too many for me to even test drive it. If it is well serviced and maintained then it should be great. Where are you located? Where is the car being sold at?Private, dealer?, independant shop?

Here is a wonderfull 1998 E320 Wagon located in the state of New Hampshire. They are asking $5,000. It has only 97,000 miles.

Volvo or Benz... doesn't matter. If you get a wagon that has been taken care of, it will serve you well. If you get a wagon that has been neglected, it will not serve you well. Choose wisely.
